A funeral for the Pizol
About 250 people climbed to 2,700 m to mourn a glacier that had lost most of its ice since 2006.

On 22 September 2019, around 250 people, many dressed in black, walked for two hours up to the Pizol glacier in eastern Switzerland. There were speeches and alphorns, and a wreath was laid.
The Pizol glacier had lost up to 90% of its volume since 2006. Scientifically, it was no longer considered a glacier. The ceremony was among the first of its kind, a month after Iceland’s farewell to Okjökull.
